CANCER SURVIVOR SPEAKERS

Those who are diagnosed with cancer often feel that they have been given a death sentence, and may easily lose hope given their tragic circumstance. After all, cancer is the second-highest cause of death after heart disease in the United States, claiming the lives of nearly 560,000 individuals each year. Yet, those who have battled cancer and won are powerful examples of how no one should lose hope in their struggle with the deadly disease, nor in any variety of personal strife. The struggle that cancer victims endure—not simply in medical terms, but also within their emotional lives, with their ability to stay connected with their families, and with their will to retain their spirituality—is the core of many amazing cancer survivor stories. The positive messages about the human spirit’s desire to remain strong in even the darkest of times leads many former patients, including famous cancer survivors, to feel the need to communicate their stories to others so that they too may see what hope lies ahead for those who feel they cannot overcome the odds in life.

For example, many have been greatly inspired by the story of world champion bicyclist Lance Armstrong, whose diagnosis of testicular cancer led doctors to give Armstrong a 40% chance of survival given that the illness had spread throughout his body. Regardless of the fact that Armstrong underwent extensive chemo therapy to counter his disease, Armstrong remarkably beat the odds of his cancer, and went on to continue his cycling career after his cancer treatment in 1998; just one year later Armstrong won the Tour de France, the world’s most well-known bicycle race. The amazing message of Armstrong’s story inspired the athlete to found the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which, like many cancer survivor stories, continues to provide hope not only to those with cancer but to all who are unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Barberusa.com shares that same message of hope through its many cancer survivor speakers. Very few individuals have the ability to uplift and inspire others like the cancer survivors featured in our roster of speakers, all of whom share motivational messages and amazing cancer survivor stories.

Among those speakers at barberusa.com willing to share their message is Betty Rollin, a former NBC news correspondent and a survivor of breast cancer. Rollin has been lauded for her book, First, You Cry, which relates the uplifting story of how she confronted her disease on emotional and other terms. The book has since become a made-for-TV movie, having brought the will to carry on to millions who have heard her story.

Dusty Baker, famed Chicago Cubs baseball manager and a fellow barberusa.com speaker, overcame prostate cancer in 2001, which has led Baker to a successful speaking career in addition to his baseball legacy. Baker’s awe-inspiring tale, which also includes stories about his professional success in the world of baseball along with his uplifting cancer survivor stories, is further testimony to how cancer survivor stories help to inspire others.

Many other famous cancer survivors are available through barberusa.com, ready to bring hope and light to those who need help to believe that nothing can stop the power of the human spirit’.
